Fire protection is the part of building services that people hope never to use, so it has to work the first time. Deneed designs and submits mechanical fire protection systems under the Fire Safety Act 1993 and SCDF's Fire Code 2023.

Which SCDF route applies

Exempt works. Some works fall under the Fire Safety (Exemption) Order. They need no plan submission, but only if the conditions in its schedule are met.
Minor addition and alteration (Minor A&A). Eligible works are lodged by a Qualified Person through CORENET before work starts, instead of going through full plan approval.
Plan approval. All other fire safety works need approved plans before work starts, and a Fire Safety Certificate before occupation.

Usually, yes. Sprinklers are a fire safety installation. Whether the change is exempt, lodged as Minor A&A or needs plan approval depends on its extent and on the conditions SCDF sets, so check before work starts.

What is a Fire Safety Certificate?

A Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) is SCDF's certificate that the approved fire safety works have been completed and are satisfactory. It is generally required before a building, or the affected part, is occupied.
