Chapter 01 — The return

She retired. Then she came back.

Er. Jessica Yip is a mother of two sons. Like many engineers who become parents, she stepped back from practice. Nobody would have blamed her for staying there.

She came back because Singapore's mechanical sector is short of Professional Engineers, and she knew she could help. Her name entered the Professional Engineers Board's register on 26 January 2023, in the largest single-year group of mechanical PEs still practising today.

Having two sons at home didn't stop her. If anything, they are part of the reason. Every building she signs off is one their generation will live and work in.

Chapter 03 — The advice she didn't charge for

“If it helps,
it helps.”

We met Er. Jessica Yip the way most people in this industry meet a PE: we needed one. One of our clients had a compliance requirement on the mechanical side, and by every normal measure the next step was to engage her.

She read the drawings and listened. Then she showed us a route, within the prevailing regulations, that met the requirement without the client needing to engage her at all.

She didn't charge for that advice. We later learned we weren't the only ones; she has done the same for other clients. When we thanked her, the explanation was four words long.

That is talent: knowing the regulations well enough to find the shortest compliant route, and being decent enough to recommend it when it costs you the job. Five questions to ask before you engage a PE →

Chapter 08 — Tribute

To Er. Jessica Yip,

You came back to a profession that needs you, and you chose to be generous with what you know. You gave advice that cost you work because it was right for the client. You did it for us, and we know you did it for others.

You are a mother of two and one of 561. Somewhere in Singapore a girl is deciding whether engineering is for her. We hope she finds this page.

We wrote every word of this site, built it and gave it to you, so that when someone searches for a mechanical PE in Singapore, they find an honest one. Thank you for being part of the ecosystem.

With gratitude, CVC EngineersOn Deneed Services' tenth anniversary · 2 November 2026
